The intermediate French course (B1) comprises 42 hours of instruction , organized into two 2.5-hour sessions per week (5 hours/week) . The course spans 2 months.
The B1 program aims to move the learner from the status of a basic user to an independent user:
Review of essential A2 grammar points and introduction of new structures (e.g., reported speech in the present tense, simple subordinate clauses, expression of cause and effect).
Various dialogues and simulations: more complex role-playing games, scenarios involving unforeseen events (cancelling an appointment, managing a common problem).
Listening comprehension: listening to longer documents (excerpts from broadcasts, public announcements, conversations) to identify the essential points.
Reading comprehension: reading short texts (simple articles, stories, letters) with exercises to identify information and vocabulary in context.
Oral expression: short presentations (for example, talking about one's background, giving one's opinion on a familiar topic), with targeted correction of pronunciation and grammar.
Written expression: guided paragraph writing exercises (telling a memory, expressing a simple opinion), dictation exercises to reinforce spelling.
Method and materials:
Interactive, learner-centered pedagogy: the focus is on functional tasks closely resembling real-life situations. For example, participants can work in small groups on scenarios (organizing a trip, debating simple current events), which encourages spontaneous expression. Learning materials include authentic texts adapted to the learner's level (excerpts from accessible newspapers, graded podcasts) to familiarize them with real French.
